Cub Scouts for Boys in Grades 1-5

Scouting Forms

The Purposes of Cub Scouting
In 1930 the Boy Scouts of America launched a home- and neighborhood centered program for boys 7 to 11 years of age.
A key element of the program is an emphasis on caring, nurturing relationships between boys and their parents, adult leaders, and friends.
Currently,  Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions.

Cub Scouting has nine purposes:
· To influence the development of character and encourage spiritual growth
· To develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship
· To encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body
· To improve understanding within thermally
· To strengthen the ability to get along with other boys and respect other people
· To foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interests and skills
· To show how to be helpful and do one's best
· To provide fun and exciting new things to do
· To prepare boys to become Boy Scouts

Membership
Cub Scouting has program components for boys in the first through fifth grades (or ages 6,7, 8, 9, or 10). Members join a Cub Scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to eight boys. First-grade boys (Tiger Cubs) meet twice a month, while Wolf Cub Scouts (second graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth and fifth graders) meet weekly.
Once a month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of a Cubmaster and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.
Stepping Stones...
Tiger Cubs - 1st Grade:
The Tiger Cub program introduces boys and their adult partners to the excitement of Cub Scouting as they  Search, Discover and Share ; together.  The Tiger Cub program is conducted on two levels.  First, the Tiger Cub and his adult partner meet in the home to conduct activities for the whole family.  Second, the Tiger Cub and adult partner meet twice a month with other Tiger Cubs/adult partners in the den, using the big  idea; (or theme) for their activity.  Each den meeting is hosted by a TigerCub/adult partner team.  Boys remain in the Tiger Cub program until they finish 1st grade.  Then, they graduate into a Cub Scout den, and may participate in Cub Scout summer activities, including Day Camp.
Bobcat: The first rank, Bobcat is for all boys joining the Cub Scouts.  It includes learning the Cub Scout Promise, Cub Scout Motto and the Law of the Pack.
Wolf - 2nd Grade: To earn the Wolf Badge, the boys must pass 12 achievements involving simple physical and mental skills.  Wolf Cub Scouts can earn arrow points for completing extra projects.
Bear - 3rd Grade: Similar to the Wolf program, Bear Cubs work on 24 achievements in four categories. They must complete 12 to earn the Bear badge.
Webelos - 4th & 5th Grades: Webelos serves as a transition to Boy Scouts.  They will complete requirements in the Webelos book, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with Boy Scouts requirements.
