Adventure Basin Gateway
Welcome to  Camp Mack Morris’s
newest program area
Adventure Basin

This area is designed to be utilized by a variety of ages and Scouting groups.  Many of the key elements, such as the Pirate Ship, Fort Jon Paul and the Adventure Gateway were designed with Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts and Webelos in mind.

How did it happen?
During the development of the Council Long-Range Plan in 1995, the need for program areas that could be used by Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers was identified.  Through the work and vision of key individuals it was determined that Adventure Basin was needed.  Work began on the basin in 1996 when the Tennessee National Guard 194th Engineering Corp moved into Camp Mack Morris as a training site.  The guard cleared the area of trees, did major clean up and constructed a new road.  Executive Board member Jim Ayers contacted the National Guard for help, Mr. Ayers’s vision and commitment to Scouting is what made this project a reality.  He saw the benefit and the opportunity for Scouts and their families to enjoy the activities but more importantly to learn the values Scouting strives to instill in youth.
Pirates Cove:  Unique to the basin and the grandest landship ever, this area sits over the water and is designed as a ship with mast, steering wheel and even cannons below to defend itself.  Be careful, rough seas and pirates abound.
Boone, Badger, Crockett: Three names associated with adventure are the three program pavilions in the basin.  Concrete pads and electricity make them ideal for year round programming.
Fort Jon Paul High on the hill overlooking Eagle Lake is the formidable Fort Jon Paul.  The highlights of the Basin can be seen from on top the Fort and all sorts of action takes place here, maybe Indians, maybe prospectors, who knows?
Fishing comes to Camp Mack Morris.  The Tennessee River, Badger and Birdsong Coves have been renown for fishing year round, but access meant a boat and all the gear, not any more.  Eagle Lake, the center point of the Adventure Basin, was built for fishing.  The lake will be managed and restocked to grow fish.   This past January the first stocking took place, 450 hybrid copper nosed bream were released and this summer more hybrid blue gills and bass will be released.  The plan is to be fishing from the bank within the year for these fast growing fish.  Someone asked recently if we feed the fish, sure do, inside the pirate ship an automatic fish feeder does the job.  Fishing at Eagle Lake will soon be ready, so get your pole.
Special note:  someone talked about catching fish and releasing them into the lake.  This would not be a good idea, any released game fish would do more harm than good, they would eat the growing stock.

Adventure Basin Council Strip Patch
Special edition of the West Tennessee Area Council Strip worn on a Scout uniform has arrived.  The Adventure Basin Council Strip Patch limited edition was released March 31, 2001 at the Grand Opening of this new program area at Camp Mack Morris.
These are the key program areas of the Basin, which will be used year round by Scouts in West Tennessee and visiting Scouts from around the country during Summer Camp. Something for everyone!  This area is exciting from the moment you walk through the Gateway with its stockade, observation posts and see “The Rock.”  You know that ADVENTURE awaits you and the question is:   What do I do first?
